AAAHHH... It feels great to be blogging on this website again. At first, I wasn't modeling. I was trying to find my way as a young Life Coach. Then the Lord barged into my plans and redirected me back to what I am called to do. You can see in this post here how I attempted at 10 other professions. But anyway....
So in this post I want to share with you Why Models Should Have a Stylist. I have a stylist and her name is Porsche Pope. She does my hair and she has helped style my first photo shoots here in Nashville. It's crazy how I met her. I was at my previous job and one of my coworkers heard me say I needed to get my hair done for my first talent showcase which was November 2016. So my coworker gave me her number, I went over, she put me on fleek and I learned that she was a Stylist. Okay maybe I was nosey, I looked around her place and saw a sewing machine and some fabrics. I had to ask what she was doing with her life lol. I told her about my ministry The Modest Movement and what its values were and she loved the idea! We then connected and she hooked me up with her photographer. LOOK AT GOD! I really didn't know many people here in Nashville and my career was already taking off.
I believe no matter what career you're in, it's important to have a team or people available to help you. As mentioned in my Youtube video, growing up wasn't typical. It was a challenge! My mother was a single parent of five at the time. I pursued this career but could never finish anything I'd started. And I wasn't one of those kids who got everything they wanted. I had 'hand-me-downs' every summer from my mom's coworkers. Their girls would be heading off to college and would of course bag up what they could no longer fit or didn't want to wear anymore. I would only get maybe one or two NEW outfits per year, and that's because my grandma or aunts would pitch in.
So here I was in my teens, going to a boojie high school wearing 'hand-me-downs'. I couldn't remember if I was thankful or not...but I know I wanted to look as good and fresh as everyone else. I didn't know my style! All I knew was pick out what you could fit in the bag and make them WORK. Cause this was all I was gonna get for that year or two. Thank God I was below 100 pounds until I got too grown and moved out lol.
ALL OF THIS TO SAY, there is nothing wrong with having a Stylist especially if you struggle to know your style and image. As models, it's a great thing to diversify your look to show others how versatile you are, but first you have to know what works! I am now 23 years old and I can finally understand what I like and what looks great on me. And I am soooo thankful for my 'Hand-Me-Downs' and Goodwill 😋
I don't always know what looks good lol but with the help of my Stylist, Porsche, we can make it look VOGUE.Winter Shoot 2016 Styled by Polished Pope |
