The Hedonist

Most of us have heard or used the term YOLO before I'm sure. It means You only live once. This phrase is so true, I mean we do only live once. The meaning behind YOLO was once used for empowerment, facing fears, and taking opportunities. Somehow the meaning changed into something worse. I don't know what it is about generations, but things surely start to evolve and meanings for words or phrases change. YOLO now means to do all of the crazy things you've never done before and forget about your life.

I know you've seen it. The photos of drunk kids sleeping behind toilets, twerking videos, newfound homosexuals that just want to "experiment", all sorts of unnecessary, meaningless chaos. Well I read something today that was an eye opener and it came from the book of Ecclesiastes 8:15, "So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat, drink, and be glad." This verse is a reminder that it is okay to enjoy life. BUT, it is also a caution to those who are always seeking pleasure. Although Solomon spoke some truth, pleasure also led to his demise.

In Ecclesiastes 2:10 he said, "I held myself back from no pleasure..." This is not how God designed life to be. It is dangerous to get into everything we see because everything we see is not healthy for us. In fact, in the book of Romans 13:13 it instructs us not to get involved with the crazy "night life" style. "Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourselves with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires."

God is the one who provides our enjoyment and pleasure in life. He even lets us enjoy the fruits of our labor.(Psalms 128:2). Pleasure is not the end result of life, but pleasure is the end result of being in God's will. If you want to be in God's will and prosper, repent of your sins and follow Jesus. He wants to give you life more ABUNDANTLY. 😊
