See that robot? See how it's programmed to constantly move that way? It's like its doing a defective robot dance. Very similar to how we usually feel at work! We have to follow rules, policies, guidelines, and regulations. We have to behave in compliance to our lead, boss, managers, supervisors, etc. Or else you'll be unemployed!
If you are anything like me, sometimes work just gets under your skin. You look around and you're like, "I know I should be doing something else!" or, "I'm sooo tired of doing the same ole same ole." And what's even crazier is, you could be saying this and you JUST started in Corporate America, and you can be saying this if you've been working for twenty plus years... Either way, we are tired. Okay maybe the newbies don't deserve to be tired, but we sure are tired of being robotic!
Here's what grinds my gears about my place of employment that really turns me into a robot:
- they don't want us talking at all
- they barely want us leaving the facility for breaks
- and one of our newest tick offs, they want us to wear aprons over our clothes
One of the most important characteristics in enjoying your work is to bring your personality. I mean c'mon, it's YOU. If we can't talk AT ALL then there is no self-expression. If they don't really like us leaving for breaks, then there is no change in scenery. There's no "happy place" if you will. And if we have to wear those aprons, there is no personal style. Now I'm a young woman, so this is important to me lol.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not bashing my company I work for. I'm just giving you examples of how robotic work can be. So is there a way around being robotic at work without breaking rules? I'm so glad you asked! I'm gonna share with you something I have at work that keeps me from being a robot. It's helps me to be more grateful for where I am, and reminds me of the process and not just my circumstance.
See these sticky notes? This is on my desktop. The one on front lists 10 Things I'm Grateful for, my job being one of them. The others list my daily affirmations. If we learn to practice gratefulness, we won't be so tired and frustrated with our jobs. If we set goals AND work towards them at our place of employment, we won't feel complacent and stuck there.
We should enjoy where we are and be thankful for the process. And guess what? Because I am grateful, I can bring my personality no matter the rules. You should see me, I'm the most giggly, stylish, and joyful person at work! When we are grateful and have integrity where we are now, there are no worries and we can be trusted to move up to the life we desire.
"Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. This is truly a gift from God." - Ecclesiastes 5:18-19
